I saw moose…

I just got back from my vacation in Maine. We had a great week- we climbed up the Beehive at Acadia National Park, went white water rafting down the Penobscott, saw Coos Canyon, hiked up to Angel Falls (the tallest waterfall in Maine), and off course water-skied! But best of all we saw not one but TWO Moose hanging out on the side of the road- a mama and her baby. Head over to flickr to see some of the pictures from the trip.

Graduation (this time its for real!)

Graduation 2007Tonight I graduate from Drexel University (for the second time, but this time is the last and final time). I can’t believe its finally over. Its been a good five years though – I met some of my best friends here and had some amazing times. I worked really hard to get to where I am and it shows. I’m so proud of what I’ve accomplished, especially with my thesis. In fact, working on my thesis this past year has got me thinking that I might want to continue doing it as a profession. I’m planning on checking out the performances at SIGGRAPH this year and volunteering at the Philly Fringe Festival.

Information Overload Premiers!!

This weekend my thesis was performed at the Drexel Dance Ensemble Spring Concert Moving Forward in Mandell Theater. The piece went off without a hitch and was well received by the audience. In fact, one special guest that made it to the performance was author, Edward Tenner, who wrote Why Things Bite Back, a book that directly influenced the concept of my piece. Check out some of the pictures from the performance; I hope to have the video up soon.

Submission for Student Research

I submitted my thesis to the 2007 SIGGRAPH Student Research Competition and Sketches & Posters. The submission required an one page abstract explaining your project. I chose to focuse on all the different people I am collaborating with to accomplish my project. There was also an optional 5 minute video you could submit. I’ve uploaded the video on my portfolio page.

SIGGRAPH 2007- San Diego, CA

I just found out today that I was accepted to be a Student Volunteer for the 2007 ACM SIGGRAPH Conference in San Diego, CA!!! I’m so excited because I’ve never been to San Diego before; in fact the last time I was on the West Coast was for the 2005 ACM SIGGRAPH Conference in Los Angeles.

Research Day

Yesterday was Drexel’s annual Research, Innovation, Scholarship and Creativity Day where students present projects that they have done to be judged. I presented my thesis by creating a poster, video with all digital assets (including music) compiled together, and displaying of some of the influential books I read as well as my notes and sketches. The judges really seemed to enjoy my presentation and project. Awards will be announced May 9 so keep your fingers crossed for me.

All Digital Assets Completed

All digital media components and music for my project are done! I’ve compiled everything together so you can get a general idea of what the piece will look like (minus the live dancers), sound like, and how everything will flow together. Enjoy! more »

Silhouetted Dancers

It wasn’t easy, but I finally finished silhouetting the “digital dancers” for the beginning of my piece. I brought the footage from filming in Mandell Theater Winter Term into Combustion and used a difference key to silhouette the dancers. After the footage was silhouetted, it needed to be brought into Flash and the bitmaps needed to be traced so that the letters could be programmed to bounce off the dancers. more »
