Once again, I submitted my thesis to the ACM SIGGRAPH conference, which will be held in Los Angeles this summer. This time, however, I was able to submit the video of the performance along with my one-page abstract. I should hear back from the judges sometime in May so keep your fingers crossed for me.

Although the weather was abnormally cold (the coldest day was around 30 degrees!), my trip to Orlando was pretty awesome! Mark and I spent four “adventure-packed” days in Disney. Highlights included staying in Magic Kingdom until 2 am, spending New Year’s Eve in Epcot, meeting Remy & Emile in MGM, and riding Expedition: Everest in Animal Kingdom. Check out some pictures from the trip at flickr.
The reason we went to Orlando to begin with is because ASI hired Taiko drummers to perform at their conference and I was asked to design an animation to be projected behind them. The performance turned out great – check out the video clip on my portfolio page.

Information Overload was mentioned during a presentation by Drexel’s Digital Media professor, Dr. Paul Diefenbach, at the iDMA conference in Philadelphia this past month.

Edward Tenner mentions Information Overload on his website. Edward’s book, Why Things Bite Back helped inspire the concept for Information Overload. After seeing the performance Edward responded with, One of the interesting positive unintended consequences of writing is how others interpret one’s ideas. Thanks for the kind words.

Five times a year ASI hosts a conference called The ASI Show!. The first conference of the year is always in Orlando and this year, yours truly will get to attend! Taiko drummers were hired to perform right before the show floor opens and I was asked to design an animation that will be projected behind them. Pretty exciting, huh – especially since this project is right up my alley. I will be creating an interactive Flash piece- There will be nine preset animations that can be controlled using the keyboard to play with the beat of the drums. Because this is being created for ASI, I will have to use a certain color scheme and each animation will be abstracts of our logo.
And if you thought that was exciting, since the conference takes place right after New Years, I have decided to go down to Orlando early with Mark and celebrate New Year’s Eve in Walt Disney World! I’ll let you know how the trip turns out when I get back.

I updated the Portfolio page of my site to include my thesis. Now you can watch the video of the performance and documentary as well as download the thesis document and code for the Engineer’s motion tracking system.

I just got back from the ACM SIGGRAPH Conference held in B-utiful San Diego where I was a Student Volunteer for the last year (since I’m no longer a student). The conference was pretty cool- I made sure to check out all of the Digital Performances, which I didn’t think were as good as last year. There was a lot of audio performances and only a few dance performances.
At the end of the week, we went to the San Diego Zoo where we saw Pandas, Kolas, otters, a baby giraffe, to name a few.

I just got back from my vacation in Maine. We had a great week- we climbed up the Beehive at Acadia National Park, went white water rafting down the Penobscott, saw Coos Canyon, hiked up to Angel Falls (the tallest waterfall in Maine), and off course water-skied! But best of all we saw not one but TWO Moose hanging out on the side of the road- a mama and her baby. Head over to flickr to see some of the pictures from the trip.

Tonight I graduate from Drexel University (for the second time, but this time is the last and final time). I can’t believe its finally over. Its been a good five years though – I met some of my best friends here and had some amazing times. I worked really hard to get to where I am and it shows. I’m so proud of what I’ve accomplished, especially with my thesis. In fact, working on my thesis this past year has got me thinking that I might want to continue doing it as a profession. I’m planning on checking out the performances at SIGGRAPH this year and volunteering at the Philly Fringe Festival.
